Starting from Imlil, our certified local guides lead you past the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m). Following a pre-dawn alpine start, push to the summit for breathtaking 360° panoramas stretching across the High Atlas to the Sahara Desert.

Trek Itinerary
DAY 1: Marrakech > Imlil (1,740m) > Sidi Chamarouch > Toubkal Refuge (3,207m)
09:00 AM — Pickup in Marrakech, 90-min drive to Imlil basecamp. Meet guide, muleteers, and pack duffels.
10:30 AM — Begin steady hike up the Mizane Valley past Aroumd.
01:30 PM — Hot cooked lunch break beside the holy shrine of Sidi Chamarouch (2,310m).
02:30 PM — Afternoon ascent through the rocky valley.
05:00 PM — Arrive at Toubkal Refuge (3,207m). Afternoon tea, settle into dorms, hot dinner at 7:00 PM.
DAY 2: Refuge > Toubkal Summit (4,167m) > Refuge > Imlil > Marrakech
04:00 AM — Early breakfast and alpine headlamp start.
04:45 AM — Ascend the south cirque scree slope to the Tizi-n-Toubkal pass (3,940m).
08:00 AM — Reach Toubkal Summit (4,167m) for sunrise and panoramic views across North Africa.
09:00 AM — Begin careful descent back to the refuge.
11:30 AM — Arrive at refuge for rest and hot lunch.
01:00 PM — Hike down the trail back to Imlil (approx. 3-4 hours).
04:30 PM — Board transfer in Imlil for Marrakech, arriving back by 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

What to Bring

Official Guide Accreditation & Checkpoints
Under Moroccan mountain safety regulations, trekking past designated trailheads (such as Aroumd and Sidi Chamarouch) requires an accredited guide. All our expeditions are personally guided or supervised by certified mountain guides registered with the Royal Moroccan Mountaineering Federation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Since 2019, a licensed Moroccan mountain guide is legally mandatory in Toubkal National Park. Royal Gendarmerie checkpoints at Aroumd and Sidi Chamarouch inspect permits and verify guide licenses. All our guides carry official Ministry of Tourism badges.
Physically demanding but technically straightforward (walking on scree, no ropes or technical climbing in summer). Summit day involves 9 to 11 hours of total walking, gaining 960m and descending 2,427m back to Imlil.
You stay at the Refuge Les Mouflons or Neltner CAF Hut. They provide shared dormitories with bunk beds, mattresses, and blankets, plus hot food and shared washrooms. Camping outside the refuge is available in summer.
